Many ways to be banned from an airline for life

While receiving a lifetime ban from an airline is extremely rare and doesn’t mean a person can never fly again, it’s certainly not a goal any traveler should set for themselves.
However it turns out that a wide variety of behaviors and actions can result in a lifetime ban.
One passenger is now on Delta Air Lines’ blacklist after going on a profanity-laced pro-Donald Trump tirade aboard a recent flight from Atlanta to Allentown, Pennsylvania. Although the man was allowed to remain on the flight, Delta eventually made the decision to issue a lifetime ban after a video of the outburst went viral.
But the case is unique in that most bans are the result of unruly passengers threatening fellow passengers and crew members rather than aggressively spewing their political opinions prior to takeoff.
Nonetheless, it’s not the most bizarre lifetime ban that’s ever been handed down by an airline.
According to McClatchyDC.com, Delta issued a ban five years ago after a man impersonated an air marshal and claimed he had gas that could put everyone on the plane to sleep.
In an even more outlandish and more recent incident, South Sudanese musician Emmanuel Jal reportedly received a lifetime ban from Canadian airline WestJet after jokingly telling a crew member that he had a “license to eat humans.”
“This is crazy. Is this true or is somebody joking? I have been banned for life to fly WestJet,” Jal wrote on his Facebook page via AllAfrica.com. “We were having fun on the plane when I cracked a joke that I have a license to eat humans if i don’t get a sandwich.”
While certainly nothing can top that, it goes to show that passengers don’t simply have to be intoxicated and or belligerent in order to be removed from a flight and slapped with a lifetime ban.
Delta CEO Ed Bastian made that clear in an internal email to employees.
“This individual displayed behavior that was loud, rude, and disrespectful to his fellow customers,” Bastian said, referring to unidentified Trump supporter. “He will never again be allowed on a Delta plane.”
Therefore, it’s best to exercise common sense and civility. www.travelpulse.com
