Singapore Airlines and Air New Zealand have set January 6, 2015 as the launch date for their alliance, with codeshare flights to go on sale for both airlines’ services between Singapore and New Zealand on September 25, 2014.
Both country’s regulatory bodies gave the venture the greenlight paving the way for its launch. The alliance is aimed at boosting existing capacity between the two countries by up to 30% annually.
According to the terms of the agreement, Air New Zealand will launch daily services between Auckland Int’l and Singapore Changi using newly refitted Boeing 777-200ER jets, taking over five flights currently operated by Singapore Airlines and adding two more weekly flights, increasing the frequency to daily.
In return, Singapore Airlines will begin deploying its A380-800 on flights to Auckland from October 27, progressively replacing an existing daily service with the smaller 777-300ER.
