AIRCRAFT
The Antonov An-225 is a special purpose aircraft built to carry the Russian space shuttle Buran. Only one example of the world's largest aircraft has been built, with another started but not finished. The completed aircraft was first flown on Dec. 21, 1988.
It is basically a much enlarged version of the An-124, with wing span extended to 290 ft (88.4 m) and length now 257ft 7in (84m), six Lotarev D-18T engines instead of the usual four, a completely new tail unit with twin fin and rudders and a 28 wheel main landing gear.
The internal width and height of the freight cabin are similar to those of the An-124. The length of the main freight hold is 141 ft (43m), with a titanium floor. The aircraft's maximum takeoff weight is 1,322,000 lb (600,000 kg). Range with 440,900 lb (200,000 kg) internal payload is 2,425 nm. (4,500 km).
The Mriya was displayed at the 1990 Farnborough Air Show.
