DELTA
AIR LINES
A major US airline operating over 2,600 flights a
day to 230 cities in 29 countries around the world,
Delta also operates an extensive feeder network under
the Delta Connection banner. Its Atlanta hub is the
world's largest, with 617 jet departures.
A generous Frequent
Flyer Program and good scheduling are pluses. Note:
Delta flights are now all 100% nonsmoking, even on
international routes. Delta BusinessElite is the
airline's intercontinental business class. Experience
the difference of added space and amenities on your
next flight to Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Europe,
India, or Japan. The airline provides enhanced service
on the ground with priority check-in, access to
BusinessElite lounges, and priority boarding, you'll
experience an added level of personal
service.
Delta's new spacious
seat design provides you with maximum space for
productivity and relaxation. The redesigned cabin
provides you with a spacious seating configuration --
no middle seats -- which means more personal space.
Delta reconfigured its aircraft with specially
designed ergonomic seats, and all BusinessElite seats
feature 60in of pitch and recline a full 160degree.
Seat accessories include Delta's battery-saving system
for laptop computers, a personal telephone to check in
with clients, an individual reading light, and
increased console space to serve as a desk area. With
five-course meals (that offer everything from beef
tenderloin to vegetarian pasta, to the world's finest
cheeses) and an award-winning Vinum wine collection,
travelers can indulge a taste for world-class dining.
The airline also offers flexible dining -- eat what
you want, when you want.
Delta AirElite is a
new solution for private business jet charter and
aircraft management services. With the operational
expertise of a global leader, Delta AirElite is
focused on safety, security, professionalism and
customer service. Travel in comfort and privacy, 365
days a year, 24-hours a day in Delta AirElite's
diversified fleet of luxurious business jets and
private jet charters accommodating 1 to 25
passengers.
Delta has not changed
its Economy Class much, it remains a typical product
with very plain services and 30-33 inch pitch seating
depending on the aircraft. The best seats are on the
Boeing 777, 767 and MD-11 aircraft.
Delta's Shuttle
service to Boston, New York, and Washington D.C. is a
very good shuttle service, mainly aimed to business
travelers with streamline boarding procedures as well
as comfortable airport lounges, added legroom and the
convenience of onboard data ports. They offer flight
departures every half-hour between the following
locations: Boston's Logan Airport and New York's La
Guardia Airport; and Washington D.C.'s Reagan National
and New York's La Guardia Airport.
Delta is testing a
couple of anti-hijack measures on one of its aircraft:
a closed-circuit camera system that scans the
passenger cabin, and a transponder that pilots can
activate if the aircraft is commandeered. The
transponder displays a code to alert air traffic
controllers.
Businesslike and
efficient but nothing outstanding is the consensus
about dependable Delta. As with most airlines, service
varies -- from great Southern hospitality all the way
to surly! The food needs to be improved, fares can be
expensive and delays and baggage mix-ups are not
infrequent (your luggage may visit places that you
never did!), but they seem to get it right most of the
time. Their best service is on international
flights.
