world's oldest operating airlines, established in
November, 1923. Finnair operates domestic and
international services to 61 destinations in 31
countries. The company's long-haul routes fly to New
York in North America and Singapore, Bangkok and Hong
Kong in the Far East. Finnair flies to Tokyo and
Beijing nonstop across Siberia. Finnair also flies to
18 destinations within Finland. The domestic flight
network is one of the densest in the world relative to
population. In addition to regularly scheduled
traffic, Finnair operates leisure flights to more than
60 destinations. Charter traffic flies mainly to
holiday resorts in the Mediterranean, the Canary
Islands, southeast Asia and the Caribbean. The Finnair
fleet comprises of Boeing MD-11 and 757, Airbus A321,
A320 and A319, MD-82/83, DC-9-51 and ATR-72
aircraft.
During most
international flights, Finnair serves a tasty meal and
drinks to go with it. Beer, wine and other drinks are
served free of charge in Business and Economy class on
scheduled flights. There are charges for beverages on
leisure flights. Bangkok/Singapore-Hong Kong
departures from Helsinki are just before the midnight,
so Business Class passengers have an extra possibility
to dine before departure every evening. Service is
included in the ticket price.
On domestic flights,
coffee, tea or refreshments with a tasty roll are
served on all flights departing before 9.00 am. On
later flights, the service varies from rolls with
coffee/tea/refreshments to refreshments or sweets
only. On most flights, even alcoholic drinks and
special sales items are available.
Finnair has introduced
a wide range of electronic services to facilitate
easier purchase and smoother travel. E-ticket travel
is already possible on all destinations within
Finland, regardless whether the operating airline is
Finnair or its partner Golden Air, to all Scandinavian
and German destinations, and to Amsterdam, New York
and Tallinn. Finnair Plus members are able to use the
Internet check-in, eCheck-In, a maximum of 16 hours
and minimum of 1 hour before the flight. eCheck-In is
possible also as a WAP-service. Check-in will soon be
possible by sending a text message (SMS Message) from
an ordinary mobile phone. With SMS, passengers can
confirm Finnair flight schedules, real time departures
and arrivals anywhere in the world, verify Finnair
Plus points, Plus point-info, special offers and
office and destination information.
A truly fine airline,
this "best-kept-secret" carrier is staffed by
extremely friendly people who provide wonderful
service, gourmet food and immaculate cabins. Most
consider it a first-class operation, but its main
drawback is summed up by the question: How often do
you go to Finland? Maybe more often now that interest
in nearby Eastern Europe and Russia is on the rise,
and Finnair is the perfect airline for those
destinations or to the Baltic.
