changed the design of the First Class cabin, which now
includes sleeper seats reclining 177 degrees. The
cabin now has removable dividers between seats,
6.4in/16cm personal video screen, and a computer power
outlet (DC converter type). The in-flight menu has
been created by some of the most prestigious chefs in
Peru, Argentina and Chile, who search for the most
delicious dishes through a variety of flavors. Master
Sommelier, Hector Vergara, is constantly searching for
the world's best wines, and LanChile's wine menu has
frequently been voted one of the five best in the
world. The new seats feature LCD individual screens
with six movie channels and 10 music
channels.
The airline introduced
a new Business Class in the Airbus A340 aircraft with
increased space between seats 56in/142cm; the increase
allows the seats to recline to a maximum of 150
degrees. The new seats feature personal video screen
and a computer power outlet (DC converter
type).
Economy Class features
an innovative digital entertainment system and
ergonomically designed seats to provide more comfort
and individual space for each passenger. The best
Economy Class is on the Airbus A340 aircraft with
six-way adjustable headrests, personal video screens,
six video channels, ten high-fidelity audio channels,
eleven interactive games, computer power outlets (PC
convertor type) and satellite telephone. The Economy
Class on the Boeing 767-300 has ten high-fidelity
audio channels but none of the other features found on
the A340.
LanChile is a fine
airline, staffed by friendly people who provide
wonderful service, and great food and cabins in the
brand new A340.

Lauda Air took first place in the four individual
categories of "Service", "Seat Comfort", "Catering"

intra-European carriers.
LOT POLISH
AIRLINES
National carrier of Poland, providing scheduled
passenger and cargo services to 43 cities in 31
countries. Founded in 1929, by the late '30s LOT had a
network covering the major part of the European
continent. Warsaw had direct connections with 21
cities in 13 countries, and LOT's fleet consisted of
28 aircraft. However, during the W.W.II, LOT lost all
its property and equipment.
Currently LOT has an
all-Western fleet of Boeing 737 and 767 and ATR72
aircraft. It serves New York, Chicago and Toronto, and
code-shares with American Airlines to 11 other major
US cities. It flies to Europe, and to Tel Aviv,
Beijing and Bangkok.
In connection with its
entry into The Qualiflyer Group, LOT changed its LOT
Voyager frequent flyer program to the Qualiflyer
program. With LOT's Fly and Rest program, passengers
arriving in Poland on a Business Class round-trip LOT
ticket will be picked up at the airport and taken to a
good hotel, with LOT paying for the transport and for
the first night with breakfast in the
hotel.
Business Class seats
are 52in/132cm pitch set up as a conventional manner
and are most spacious on the long-haul Boeing 767
aircraft. Two meals are served during transatlantic
flights. The first comprises of a hot meal, the second
is cold, and served around one hour before touchdown,
as breakfast or supper. More modest meals are served
on European or domestic flights.
In 1996, "Business
Travel World" awarded LOT the title of Best Airline in
Central and Eastern Europe. The airline has come a
long way from the days of flying Russian-type aircraft
and is constantly expanding and improving its
services.
LUFTHANSA GERMAN
AIRLINES
German flag-carrier and sixth largest airline in the
world. Together with its partners, Lufthansa serves
over 301 destinations in Europe, North and South
America, Africa, the Middle East and Asia/Pacific
regions, with an average of 1,700 daily
departures.
Lufthansa's First
Class delivers exclusivity down to the last detail.
The First Class cabin seats give you an unusual degree
of private space. The sleeper seat with adjustable
head and shoulder rests, can be turned into a
6ft6in/195cm long bed. When it comes to culinary
delights, you simply tell the airline what and when
you would like to eat and drink. On intercontinental
routes from Germany, Lufthansa's Star Chefs offer
passengers top-class menus and "Vinothek Discoveries",
a selection of exclusive wines. For in-flight
entertainment there is a personal monitor, or a
personal video player, with an onboard video library
and every seat has a laptop connection that doesn't
need an extra adapter plug.
Business Class on
European routes offers "Taste Europe!" a culinary
program that presents regional specialties of European
cuisine. The ergonomically optimal seats of long-haul
fleet provide the passenger with top comfort and the
overall height of their backrests can be adjusted. The
seats' folding "wings" provide extra head support when
resting or sleeping. A personal monitor for the
in-flight entertainment program and a laptop
connection, which needs no adapter plug, are also
available on Business Class.
In an innovative move,
Lufthansa started offering a brand new all Business
Class 737-700 Boeing Business Jet service between
Newark and Dusseldorf. With this innovative flight,
Lufthansa is the only airline offering nonstop service
between the New York area and Dusseldorf. Lufthansa
offers the new service daily except Tuesday. The
flights are operated by PrivatAir, the Swiss airline
renowned for intercontinental VIP Business Jet
Service. On board, the Boeing 737-700 Business Jet,
business travelers will appreciate the exclusive
environment of the 48 seat Business Class cabin with
roomy "cradle" seats, gourmet dining and a personal
Sony Watchman available for every passenger. For
passengers who want to use their laptop during the
flight, they have to make sure that their battery is
fully charged as there are no laptop connections
onboard the Boeing 737-700 Business Jet. On all other
Lufthansa long-haul flights laptop connections are
available in First Class and Business
Class.
Lufthansa's Economy
Class offers you individually adjustable headrests,
attractive in-flight services, and a Welcome Aboard
drink either before or after the meal. A snack is
served during the entertainment program. Besides
offering PC connections, Skyphones and in-flight
entertainment, Lufthansa has fitted a 747-400 with
Boeing's Connexion equipment for testing. Connexion
uses high-speed broadband data links to permit
passengers to send e-mail, use the Internet, and
eventually view live TV in-flight.
Seen by most
passengers as the Mercedes of the air -- smart and
efficient, but sometimes lacking warmth and atmosphere
-- an on-time and in-control example of German
efficiency. It is exceptionally reliable, with
excellent food and spacious, roomy first-class
section. Some point out that the excellence of its
international flights is not matched by its
intra-European services. However, most airlines could
learn from Lufthansa. Right now it is one of the best
airlines in the world with great seats, service,
aircraft and a truly global network thanks to the
great airline alliance it created.
