MALAYSIA AIRLINES
National carrier of Malaysia, Malaysia Airlines' humble origins began in the golden age of travel. From a small charter service provider, Malayan Airways Limited evolved into Malaysian Airways Limited in 1963 to Malaysia Airlines on 15 October 1987. The airline continued to spread its wings wider and further, with fleet modernization programs and new international routes. Today, Malaysia Airlines serves 116 destinations across six continents with a modern fleet of 95 aircraft, including the Boeing 747-400 and the new 777.

Malaysia Airlines' First Class cabins offer a very warm ambiance and wide and comfortable seats that recline into flat beds. The seats also feature the remote control unit to choose your movies, music or video games. The controller also doubles as a Skyphone. In-flight laptop adapters are available for use by First Class and Golden Club Class passengers on the Boeing 747-400 and 777-200. The cuisine is stylish and offers a wide selection of gourmet items like Sevruga caviar and fine aged cheeses. On most international flights, you can enjoy Malaysia Airlines' signature dish, satay. These delicately spiced skewers of chicken, beef or lamb are grilled in the traditional manner on a charcoal fire and they are served with the condiments of cucumber and onions together with a spicy peanut sauce. On long-haul flights, for a bite in-between meals, try something from the SKYSNAX selection, this includes cheese and crackers, chocolates, biscuits and fruit, or the cabin crew would be happy to prepare a fresh sandwich to your liking. Entertainment offers 19 channels (on the 747-400 and 777-200 a personal 10.4" touch screen is available), personal TV (IPTV) on each seat to watch any one of 12 video channels or browse through their Movie and CD library.

The Golden Club Class seats in Business Class allow passengers to sit or sleep; the seat also features the controls to the in-flight entertainment system and Skyphone. In-flight laptop adapters are available for use by Golden Club Class passengers on the Boeing 747-400 and 777-200. The Golden Club dinner can be a delight with a fine selection of wines. On long-haul flights, the SKYSNAX selection available in First Class is also present, as well as the Malaysia Airlines signature dish, satay. Golden Club travelers can also enjoy the in-flight entertainment system with a personal 10.4in/26cm touch screen and 12 channels.

In Economy Class, Malaysia Airlines offers comfortable seating arrangements, tailored to long-haul flights with foot rests and lumbar support. Economy Class dining is very agreeable, choose from a selection of two hot dishes, from Malaysian Classics like Beef Rendang and Nasi Lemak to international favorites such as Chicken Teriyaki and Fish Provencale. Complement your meal with a selection of beverages, including fine wines from the best regions in the world. On long-haul flights, the airline offers snacks such as sandwiches, chocolates, biscuits and cheese. Entertainment is provided on the Boeing 747-400 and 777-200 with individual 6.5in/16.5cm TV screens located behind each seat; the personal TV also becomes a video game console.

Malaysia Airlines has made enormous progress in the last few years, with new aircraft, a new image, warm and friendly service, good food and attention to detail. Comfort is high, and the passenger is made to feel important. Its passenger traffic growth has nearly doubled in the last five years. This airline is a very good choice for travel to Southeast Asia.

MALEV HUNGARIAN AIRLINES
Hungarian national airline, operating a network of services to points in Asia, Europe, the Middle East, North Africa and North America. It flies to 40 cities in 27 countries. In 1946, the capacity of Malev's predecessor Maszovlet was a total 115 seats. Today, this has increased to 3,200. Fifty years ago a 21-person Li-2 passenger aircraft flew at an altitude of 2-3000 meters at a speed of 230 km/hour, and a maximum flying range of barely 500 km.

Today, Malev's Boeing 767 aircraft fly at 12,000 meters at a speed of 950 km/hour, and can cover a distance of almost 13,000 km without having to refuel. In 1946, Maszovlet carried only 2,000 passengers, while last year Malev registered 1.6 million passengers. Malev offers you convenient seats, Hungarian food, friendly catering and a wide range of drinks. They have games, toys for children and, on long-haul flights, movies and music.

The airline has all the basic services available including Business Class lounges, but passenger services are improving on international flights, and more slowly on national flights. Still an airline to use only if there is nothing else available.

MEXICANA
Mexicana Airlines, is North America's pioneer airline and the fourth oldest in the world after KLM, Avianca and Qantas. It was founded in 1927. Today, thanks to its more than 8 million passengers annually and the efforts of its staff, Mexicana operates a fleet of 51 aircraft made up of Boeing 727-200, 757-200, Airbus A320 and Fokker F100s.

Mexicana's network now includes 32 cities in Mexico, 8 in the U.S., two in Canada, three in Central America, five in South America and one in the Caribbean. Partnerships with other airlines and alliances with wholesale travel agents have increased its presence in other markets. Mexicana Airlines offers departures from Newark to Mexico City, which will allow passengers to connect to more destinations in Central and South America, Mexico and the Caribbean.

Package deals are available such as VTP's (sold in Mexico) for all Mexicana destinations, MexSeaSun (sold in the U.S.A. and Canada), Mayapass and Mexipass in the U.S.A. and Europe, and the frequent flyer program called Frecuenta. Enjoy good in-flight service, which includes a free bar and great meals. The menus, specially designed for Executive Class, are approved by the prestigious French/Mexican gastronomic club Les Toques Blanches. Chefs Enrique Espinosa, Roberto Rangel and Celedonio Herrera, active members of the club, share their successful creations with Executive Class passengers. The bar offers a good selection of drinks, including Tequila and Champagne Veuve Clicot during flights of five hours or more.

The seating in both classes is the average Business or Economy Class type of pitch or recline due to the fact that the airline does not fly too many long haul flights. Mexicana is mainly a regional airline, but it is part of the best airline alliance and can connect travelers seamlessly to the rest of the world.

MIDWEST EXPRESS
Major airline serving 50 destinations in the USA and Canada from its Kansas City, Milwaukee and Omaha hubs, extended still further through its subsidiary Skyway Airlines, operating as The Midwest Express Connection. The airline caters primarily to business travelers.

Midwest Express just cast a vote of confidence in the future, firming up an order for 20 new Boeing 717s. The 717 is essentially a re-engined DC-9, with upgraded cockpit, passenger cabin and other systems.

A leading consumer report has named Midwest Express as the "Best U.S. Airline" for seven consecutive years. In 1994 and 1996, the prestigious Zagat Airline Survey rated Midwest Express Airlines the "Best Domestic Airline" and Fourth Best in the world, the first time a U.S. airline has placed among the top ten. In 1998, Travel & Leisure named Midwest Express Airlines the "Best Domestic Airline" for the second year in a row, and in 1999, readers of Conde Nast Traveler magazine rated Midwest Express as the #1 U.S. Airline for the fifth year in a row. Conde Nast Traveler Business Travel Awards rated Midwest Express the best U.S. Airline.

Midwest Express Airlines has earned its reputation for providing "the best care in the air" by offering passengers luxury service at competitive coach or discounted fares. The best feature of the airline is its all Business Class seating in every aircraft with 2-2 configuration, with better pitch, seat width and recline. This unique combination of impeccable, personal service at competitive prices has brought national recognition to the Milwaukee-based airline. It is too bad that it is not available in more locations or on long-haul international flights.
