Travel Tip "Number
One" has to be: Plan your trip as far in advance as possible. This
will enable you to get the best deal in terms of fares, and let you
sort out any difficulties while there is still time. After you have
bought your ticket, especially if you have checked in at the airport,
it is too late to discover that there are no facilities for getting
your disabled grandmother's wheelchair on the aircraft.
The
Air Traveler's Ten Commandments
- Plan the flight well
in advance, taking a day flight if possible, and/or arriving when it is
bedtime in the zone of origin; adapt gradually.
- Lead as quiet a life
as possible during the 24 hours before the flight.
- Cut back on or stop
smoking before and during the flight.
- Drink little or no
alcohol in flight.
- Avoid temptations to
overeat during the flight.
- Drink plenty of
nonalcoholic, non-sparkling fluids during the flight.
- Wear loose-fitting,
comfortable clothes and shoes.
- Have a 24 hour rest
period after a five-hour time change.
- Never attend
important functions, nor make important decisions, after an east/west
or west/east flight.
- Consider taking a
mild, quick acting sedative if crossing time zones. Always check with
your physician first.
