KLM
ROYAL DUTCH AIRLINES
Economy Class
Amsterdam to
Zurich
Breakfast: Mixed peanuts, 'rondo' cookie. "This was a
7.50 a.m. flight, and this is what KLM thinks a
breakfast should look like. YUK."
Snack: Peanuts coated in 'Vietnamese' garlic/curry
crust. "Very poor in comparison to the other carrier
on this route (Swiss)."
Zurich to Amsterdam
Dinner: Slice of cake, peanuts. "Even more cost
savings at the Royal Dutch Airlines: The bag of
peanuts is getting smaller!"
Detroit to Amsterdam
Dinner: Spicy chicken with potato and green beans,
salad, some kind of sponge cake with white wine
"Excellent chicken and vegetables, very poor salad and
dessert."
Dubai, UAE to Amsterdam
Breakfast: A cheese omelette, Dutch Frikadell, roasted
potatoes, yoghurt, and fruit. Drink: choice of coffee,
tea, or fruit juices "The omelette was tolerable, the
potatoes were a touch soggy, but the frikadell was
excellent. Interestingly, KLM appears to be using
stainless steel knives on all flights other than those
to and from North America, which I find highly
commendable. Plastic is appalling."
Muscat, Oman to Dubai, UAE
Midnight Snack: Mini-kebabs with pasta, tomato &
cheese sandwiches; dates and two Arab pastries for
dessert "Considering the airtime between Muscat and
Dubai is less than 40 minutes, managing a hot snack
with full beverage service is quite a feat. Within 10
minutes of takeoff everyone on the 767 had been served
and the garbage was collected 10 minutes before
landing! As for the food itself, the kebabs were quite
tasty and the pastries were first-rate, as they
usually are in this part of the world. The pasta was
okay, but I'm no fan of such things after
midnight."
Hamburg to Amsterdam, KLM City Hopper
Evening Snack "Nice sandwiches, Apple Pie, Champagne,
Baileys, Coffee, funny young crew, great!"
San Francisco to Amsterdam
Breakfast "This was a strange meal, perhaps intended
to be a brunch. It consisted of broccoli, and what was
described to me later as a soufflé, some
tater-tot like spuds, and a bizarre creamed mustard
sauce. The yoghurt and bagged pastry were much
welcomed additions. I guess I was supposed to put the
jelly & butter on the bagged pastry?
Dinner: "This was a typical chicken and potatoes
dinner with a micro-salad and a nondescript spice (?)
cake dessert."
