Business Class
London LHR to New York
JFK
Snack: Mini sandwiches made of tuna, egg salad and
turkey on wheat bread. Raison roll on the side. Drink:
Starbucks Coffee Comments: "Good, but, I had expected
more food choices in Business Class."
Denver to San Francisco
"Streamlined" Breakfast: Fruit Salad, Your choice of
pastry, breakfast grossito/nastito, I mean burrito
Drink: Bailey's!!! Comments: "Burrito was worse than
the ones I've had in Peasant Plus... guess what movie
I'm watching?"
San Francisco to Denver
"Streamlined" Breakfast - Fruit salad, your choice of
pastry, and a breakfast bagel. Drink: Cranberry Juice
on the Rocks Comments: "The bagel seemed like Peasant
food..."
London to New York
Dinner: Chicken with potatoes and mushroom in gravy.
Desserts consist of a Tiramisu cake and Starbucks
coffee.
San Francisco to Tokyo Narita
Dinner: Steak with gravy, jumbo asparagus, a cheesy
potato nest au gratin and chocolate cake. "The gravy
masked the general dryness of the steak but the
asparagus/potatoes rocked."
San Francisco to Denver
Lunch: "A warm sliced turkey/chicken (?) breast
sandwich served on a foccocia like bread with a very
few grilled/cooked red onions. Served with a generous
side of mayo and included a dill pickle spear, cherry
pepper with a slice of tomato. Had this very tasty
sandwich been served in a restaurant I would deduct a
bit for the soggy layer of bread next to the meat, but
hey this IS airline food. A cold salad of mixed color
pasta with pine nuts. Mixed fruit bowl included two
types of melon, pineapple, a strawberry, and a few
seedless red grapes. All fruit was ripe and nicely
sweet. Dessert was a light (cake style versus creamy)
cheesecake with a chocolate (cookie?) crust and a
chocolate topping drizzled with caramel and a few
walnuts. Flawless meal and easily rates a perfect 10.
Kudos to the chef who planned the meal and the ground
food provider who prepared this excellent meal. The
service upstairs on this 747 was also excellent and
the ladies providing the service are to be
complimented. Is it any wonder frequent fliers seek
upgrades; one can only shudder at the thought of what
the common folk in 'cattle' class were offered on this
short two hour flight; I hope their peanuts were at
least salted."
Denver to San Francisco
Dinner: "A large pair of cheese filled ravioli served
with a meatless tomato sauce. Although the ravioli
were attractively decorated with colorful stripes, the
edges were dried and more than just a bit chewy. A
more liberal serving of the tomato sauce would have
been a plus as the ricotta cheese filling alone is not
a moving taste experience. The mixed green salad was
crisp and the serving size adequate; served with
French dressing. The dessert was a chocolate crusted
light cheesecake, I think; no menu description was
provided. "
San Francisco to Toronto
"I greatly enjoyed this, my very first business class
meal. Or was it the copious amount of legroom? the
comfortable seats? the attentive service? the real
salt and pepper shakers???"
UNITED AIR
LINES
First Class
Sydney to San
Francisco
Dinner: "Crab cakes with oven-roasted tomatoes in red
wine sauce and risotto with parmesan cheese. Then came
a salad with lemon myrtle dressing. The main course"
was a Filet Mignon with a roasted garlic demi-glace
and parslied chateau potatoes and Chinese broccoli.
Dessert was Ice cream with sundae toppings. The red
wine I had was a 1999 Kangarilla Road McLaren Vale
Shiraz. For airline food, even in International First
Class, this was really excellent."
Vancouver to, Denver
Hot Roast Beef Sandwich: Roast Beef, cheese, onions,
peppers. Also came with a Pasta Salad, and fruit tart.
"Pasta Salad wasn't very tasty, but the sandwich
was!"
Cleveland to Denver
Breakfast: "It was pretty good, they also served
muffins, bagels, and croissants."
Denver to San Francisco
Dinner: BBQ Ribs served a mixed vegetable side along
with a side salad, dinner roll, and Eli's Cheesecake.
"This meal was very filling, but it left quite a bit
to be desired. The ribs were very very dry and hard to
eat. The roll became rock hard from the time of
warming them to the time that I ate them. The salad
and the salad dressing were quite good, and I devoured
it all. The cheesecake (which I could hardly eat after
being stuffed from the ribs) was wonderful. The
cheesecake alone is a
reason to fly United. I have better, although the meal
was served nicely, and was very filling."
Salt Lake City to Chicago ORD
Breakfast: "Mixed grain Basic four cereal with milk
and banana, along with 8 oz Yoplait strawberry yoghurt
to be eaten with vanilla flavored granola. Flight
attendant offered choice of hot bread (croissant,
muffin, bagel) for plate with grape jelly and butter.
Linen napkin along with metal silverware and porcelain
dishes. Pack of sugar for cereal or coffee, and salt
and pepper to taste. A very filling meal, the hot
croissant was the best part, along with granola in the
yoghurt and fresh
banana. Very good; Cereal is cereal, would have
preferred more fruit."
Los Angeles to Honolulu
Dinner: "My mai tai before lunch service, grilled mahi
mahi in creamy sweet corn sauce (sorry, no picture).
it was a very good entree, enjoyed it a lot. The drink
was nice, a little on the strong side, and not very
well mixed (all the alcohol on top, etc.), but great
anyway!
Economy Class
Los Angeles to
Washington IAD
Lunch: Ravioli, Salad, Breadstick, Chocolate Chip
Cookie, La Croix Sparkling Water. "The ravioli was a
bit more edible than it looks. The sorry salad,
however, was not. The breadstick
and cookie were both too crispy for my taste."
Chicago ORD to Los Angeles
Snack: Turkey and cheese sandwich, Macaroni salad,
Milano Cookies, Canada Dry Club Soda. "I'm a sucker
for Milano cookies, and that alone would've been a
good enough "snack" for me. The
rest, however mediocre it was, was just gravy."
San Francisco to Orlando
Dinner: Stuffed Shells. "The salad was lousy, but the
shells were a lot better than the other choice (rubber
chicken)."
New York JFK to San Francisco
Dinner: Sliced roast beef, carrots and broccoli with
mashed potatoes and gravy. A shrimp and celery salad,
plus a green salad and dinner roll with cheese and
crackers. Dessert was a creamy cheese cake. "The roast
beef had a nice flavor and I wondered if this we a
menu item from the summer taste of Chicago promotion?
The mashed potatoes tasted like instant. The shrimp
salad was a nice addition, but the accompanying celery
did not have much added flavor from the covering light
dressing. The cheesecake was tasty but a bit too sweet
for my tastes."
Paris CDG to San Francisco
Snack: Some kind of poultry (chicken/turkey?) and
mystery cheese United micro-sandwich, served with a
bag of potato chips. The 'dessert' was a KitKat bar.
The micro-sandwich the Dijon mustard option, which I
prefer, but my wife could not tolerate; it was quite
'zippy' and did wake-up my taste buds. Why UAL does
not provide both a mustard or mayo package is beyond
me? I wonder why UAL doesn't both to identify the
food? It's probably for "security reasons" as that's
their 'reason' for
everything these days.
San Francisco to New York JFK
Lunch: A cold chicken breast served with rice and
lentils, a micro-salad, roll, and Milano cookies for
dessert. "This meal needed salt, or something to
rescue it from its slumber in the land of bland. No
salt, nor pepper, was to be found in the plastic ware
bag nor on the tray; my seat mate found salt &
pepper under his salad tray."
Chicago to Tokyo
Lunch: Char siu pork with glass noodle salad,
Vegetable salad with Asian-style dressing,
Stir-fried
chicken with Jasmine rice, Chocolate cake "The cake
was the best part in this meal."
Oakland to Washington IAD
Snack: Tortilla Chips, Salsa, Cheese Spread, Water
Crackers, Orchard Fruit Mix, Sugar Cookies
Cranberry Juice Cocktail. "I was pleasantly surprised
to see the stewardess handing out large packages of
snacks; I wasn't expecting any food after
breakfast!"
Breakfast: "What was in the meal?: Burrito (Egg &
Cheese), Cranberry Orange Nut Muffin, Fresh Fruit
(Cantaloupe, Honeydew Melon), orange juice. The eggs
were rubbery, the tortilla shell was
hard, the muffin was cold, and the Honeydew wasn't
ripe."
Tokyo Narita to Bangkok
Dinner: Succulent pork atop a bed of fragrant noodles,
garnished with cute little carrot flowers. "A prime
example of Japanese caterers preparing Asian food for
American palates."
Paris CDG to San Francisco
Dinner: This is the chicken menu option that goes with
the above lasagne style pasta dish. The chicken was
served with mashed potatoes, a brown substance assumed
to be grey and a few brightly colored green beans. The
meal included a few red seeded grapes some crackers
and Camembert cheese. The micro-salad was served with
an Italian style salad dressing, a bagged roll and a
pat of butter. Note the empty dessert serving tray, as
mentioned above, the ice cream dessert was served
after the meal. "I was sorry I opted for the lasagne
rather than the chicken, but as always this is
something of a Hobbes' Choice."
Paris CDG to San Francisco
Dinner: A lasagne style pasta dish stuffed with
ricotta cheese and with a hint of tomato sauce with a
pair of black olives and what I believe where two
shreds of bell pepper. The meal included a few red
seeded grapes (apparently French kids are able to
discern that the seeds need not be eaten), some
crackers and Camembert cheese. The micro-salad was
served with an Italian style salad dressing, a bagged
roll and a pat of butter. Not shown is the
caramel/chocolate sauce ice cream dessert; they served
it after the meal in a rock hard form rather than with
the meal with an allowance for it to soften a bit? "I
opted for the pasta as I had had the chicken option on
the flight to CDG; my wife order the chicken which can
be viewed in the next contribution; perhaps this can
be a new category of photographing both menu options
J?"
San Francisco to Paris CDG
Snack: Another smoked turkey and mystery cheese United
micro-sandwich, served with a mixed fruit bowl; sorry
I should have removed the lid from the fruit container
as the reflected flash hides the contents. The dessert
was a bagged slice of 'pound cake;' probably more
correctly called a half-pound cake. A small container
of orange juice included. "The micro-sandwich was
pre-basted with mayo, while I prefer the Dijon mustard
option as it at least wakes-up my taste buds."
Dinner: The standard chicken and rice fare with a
slathering of tomato sauce and a few carrots added for
color balance. The micro-salad was served with
vinaigrette salad dressing, a bagged roll and a pat of
butter. The meal included a few red seedless grapes,
some crackers and Camembert cheese . oh so French. The
dessert was a caramel flavored creamy style
cheesecake. "What can you say about chicken &
rice? There was a rotten grape included in my serving;
you can see it in the left center of the
fruit-and-cheese serving tray. I found the wrapped
cracker package impossible to open. I liked the
Camembert cheese and the dessert."
San Francisco to London LHR
"The great mile-high peanut famine strikes again.
Quite a nicely designed mug. Clean simple shape,
elegant lines... shame about the coffee, though."
San Francisco to somewhere in the US, a few years ago
"I've banished the memory of this meal, Chilli dogs:
by nature, not very visually appetising. Somebody in
catering should have know better."
San Francisco to Amsterdam
"There's something about warm green food that just
doesn't work for me. I think those tubular things were
some sort of pasta concoction. Don't get me started
about the mushy broccoli."
London LHR to San Francisco
"I was very impressed with the white/wheat bread roll
combo, and the apple/orange/kiwi fruit salad was a
pleasingly fresh complement to the predominantly
earth-toned entree."
Chicago ORD to San Francisco
"This 5 PM flight snack included a smoked ham and
Swiss micro-sandwich; this time UAL was bold and ID'ed
the cheese type. The cole slaw was too sweet for my
taste. The M&M's for dessert were colorful. I
enjoyed the additional read material UAL supplied
inside the meal box, but I would have preferred
another pack of Dijon mustard to spice up even more
the micro-sandwich."
San Francisco to Chicago ORD
"Time was when a four hour flight included a hot meal,
now if you are lucky you get a snack. This 11 AM
flight snack included a honey roasted turkey &
cheese micro-sandwich; no idea what type of cheese it
was other than 'white.' The carrots and dressing made
a most wonderful 'salad,' and I was able to use the
excess salad dressing to add some much needed moisture
to the turkey & cheese. I found the
chocolate/vanilla layered pudding dessert to be quite
good... thank you Swiss-Miss!"
Chicago to Boston
Beverage Service: "Salty snack was tasty, could've
eaten several more packages".
Seattle to San Francisco
Breakfast snack: Breakfast which was like a trail mix,
only geared more toward breakfast eating; a pound cake
type thing; a banana. Water "It was actually not bad,
a little on the sweet side. At the time I had already
eaten something at the airport so I wasn't that hungry
for the meal. I did take home the breakfast mix and
the banana."
US AIRWAYS
First Class
Philadelphia to Los
Angeles
Dinner: "What was in the meal?: Chilled smoked salmon
with traditional accompaniments with run-of-mill
chardonnay and excellent presentation, texture."
Philadelphia to Minneapolis/St. Paul
Dinner: Mixed greens salad. Cheese Lasagne. "Hot meal
was a nice surprise on 3 hour flight. Croutons on
salad were soggy, Lasagne was quite flavorful. Roll
was pretty good. Meal wasn't extravagant like transcon
flights, but it was filling and pretty tasty. I
especially liked how the flight attendant served my
meal with the drink on the tray."
Philadelphia to San Francisco
Dinner: The appetizer consisted of mixed green salad
with vinaigrette, a warm pumpernickel roll and a
delicious fresh shrimp cocktail with cocktail sauce in
a carved out cucumber. We actually were given a nice
little menu with salad choices and three different
entrees (chicken, beef, or turbot stuffed with
salmon). Main course consisted of beef tenderloin with
a burgundy wine sauce, grilled peppers and green
beans, and parsley mashed potatoes. Drinks flowed
throughout - I had red wine. "First class meal on US
Airways is far superior to their coach meals. Big
meals like this only served on transcon flights...
meal was surprisingly good. We actually were given a
nice little menu with salad choices and three
different entrees (chicken, beef, or turbot stuffed
with salmon). As another person said on the website,
US Airways still doesn't skimp up front. Flight
attendants kept my wine and coffee filled as often as
I wanted."
Los Angeles to Baltimore
Lunch: Appetizer is smoked salmon with cucumber and
tomato slices, garnished with sweet onions. Salad
topped with creamy Italian dressing and parmesan
cheese shavings. Bottom left shows ramekin with heated
assorted nuts served during cocktails. "US Air
provides an extraordinary service in the
front cabin during U.S. coast to coast flights. With
limited galley space on their 757s, they still are
able to offer a top notch multi course main meal. Both
Baltimore and Los Angeles catering was excellent,
close to restaurant quality."
Economy Class
Philadelphia to
Amsterdam
Dinner: Beef with vegetables and rice. "Not bad of
taste and nice presentation."
San Francisco to Pittsburgh
Dinner: Iceburg lettuce salad with tomato, beef tips
in black bean sauce with rice pilaff, and a Walker
butter cookie. "Meal was definitely worse than what
was being served up front. Salad dressing came in
small ketchup-style packet and was hot - yuck! Salad
was fresh, but minimal. Rice was acceptable, as was
the beef; however, I'll probably try the pasta option
next month."
Pittsburgh to Dallas
Breakfast: "This "Aladdin tray" is a stackable vacuum
thing that keeps the food hot on board till its
served. The bottom of the tray is like an air pocket.
Most US carriers no longer serve any food on routes
less than 3 hrs, so this was a big treat."
Los Angeles to ?
Dinner: "The only thing that really made us believe
this was a salad was that it came with salad
dressing!"
