Copenhagen
Copenhagen was
once again voted Europe's Leading Cruise Port at
the 2008 World Travel Awards. At the World
Travel Awards ceremony in Poprad in Slovakia,
Copenhagen ran off with the title of Europe's
Leading Cruise Port for the fifth year in a row.
This year's competitors were Amsterdam,
Barcelona, Genova, Istanbul, Las Palmas,
Marseille, Oslo, Southampton, Split and
Stockholm. Around 170,000 representatives from
the global travel industry voted on which
destinations, hotels and airlines should win
World Travel Awards, which is the travel
industry's Oscar. The cruise industry has
flourished in Copenhagen over the last years. By
the end of 2008, Copenhagen will have had a
record year with 580,000
cruise-passenger-visits. This is more than a
twofold increase of passengers compared to 2003.
In total 301 ships will call into port this
year, half of which are turnaround ships where
passengers begin or end their trip in
Copenhagen. The number of turnarounds has
increased by 23 percent this year compared to
last year. For more information, visit
