United Airlines is putting the finishing touches on their 68,000-square-foot boarding area E of Terminal 3 at San Francisco International Airport (SFO).

The area will include a yoga room, following in the footsteps of the yoga area recently opened at Chicago O’Hare International.

Set to open Jan. 28, the new and improved space will offer 10 gates for United customers and accommodate more than 50 departures per day. A 23-foot-tall window wall is one of the visual centerpieces of the area, offering up-close views of the airfield and the Bay Area.

Other highlights include “The Flight Deck,” an interactive information and entertainment area, egg chairs and swivel lounge chairs, new dining options including the Bay Area’s iconic Klein’s Deli, complimentary Wi-Fi, nine workstations with more than 375 power outlets and a new kids area.

The area was designed to achieve Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) gold certification.

“We’re pleased to work with San Francisco International Airport on the redesign of Boarding Area E, which is focused on our customers and the things they’ve told us are important,” said Kate Gebo, United’s vice president of corporate real estate. “United continues to modernize our terminal facilities, United Club lounges and gate areas, to offer customers a simpler, friendlier airport experience.”

Additional changes are in the works at Terminal 3 as well. A new Global Services reception area and a new-check-in area for MileagePlus Premier customers will open in September. The airline’s existing Terminal 1 Boarding Area B operations will move to Terminal 3 by mid-May.

Good news for frequent flyers and extended layover sufferers: a new United Club is scheduled to open by summer 2015.

San Francisco International Airport has been named Best Airport in the Americas by the readers of Frequent Business Traveler, an online publication written for and by affluent frequent business travelers.  The Frequent Business Traveler GlobeRunner Awards recognize the world’s best travel companies, including airline, hotel, car rental agencies and travel websites.
